Robert F. Johnston was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in c.1881. He subsequently worked as an architect in England in the early years of the twentieth century. A drawing room and plan of a house in Guildford, Surrey, designed by Johnston is illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1910 (p.48); drawings and floor plan of 'Voor Linden', near the Hague, the Netherlands, and drawings of cottages at Letchworth in Hertfordshire, designed by him are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1912 (pp.33, 34, 35, 37); a drawing and floor plan of a pair of cottages at Wendover, Buckinghamshire, a photograph of the entrance to a house at Letchworth, Hertfordshire, and a drawing and floor plan of a house in Buckinghamshire, designed by him are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1913 (pp.36, 37, 38); and three drawings and a floor plan of 'The Cherry Orchard', Chorley Wood, Hertfordshire, designed by him are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1914 (p.33). Johnston exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1913-14. His address was Hes address was given as The Firs, Cowley, Uxbridge, Middlesex in 1911 and 1 Brook Street, Hanover Square, London in 1913 and 1914. He died in 1914. His death was registered in Eton, Buckinghamshire
