Elijah Jones was born in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England in 1855 and was articled to Robert Boyle (1836-1927) in Manchester and to William Pollard (1853-1930). He also attended Victoria University, Manchester, and Manchester School of Art. Jones commenced independent practice as an architect in Hanley in 1877. He was appointed Architect to Bucknall Hospital Committee; and Architect to (Smallpox) North Staffordshire Joint Hospital Board. Jones was for many years a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) and was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925. He was also Hon. Local Secretary Society of Architects for Hanley and district.
Jones's address was given as 16 Lichfield Street, Hanley in 1861; 9 Church Street, Stoke-on-Trent in 1881; Mousecroft House, 37 Stoke Fields, Hanley in 1891; 10 Albion Street, Hanley in 1896 and 1926; and Vine Cottage, Vine Street, Hanley in 1937. He died in Hanley on 16 October 1937.
