Kenchington, Herbert 1881 - 1964

Herbert Kenchington was born in Highbury, Middlesex [now London], England on 25 March 1881. He was articled to Nevinson & Newton from 1895 to 1898 and remained with them as an assistant until 1900.  He also attended classes at the architectural Association, the Northern Polytechnic Institute and Acton and Chiswick Polytechnic in London.  He was employed as an assistant to Joseph Douglass Mathews (1838-1923) and Henry Edmund Mathews (1868-1947) of J. Douglass Matthews from 1900 to 1907.

Kenchington commenced independent practice as an architect in 1907 and was appointed District Surveyor for Stoke Newington. He also lectured on architectural history and building law at Northern Polytechnic Architectural School in London and at Acton Polytechnic. He qualified as an architect in 1909 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year. He was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1929.

His address was given as 14, Great James St., Bedford Row, London and 41, Thurlby Road, Wembley. Middlesex in 1914; 14, Great James Street, London and 108, High Road, Wembley, Mlddlesex in 1923 and 1926; and Ridgeway, Nancy Downs, Oxhey, Watford, Hertfordshire, 7 Staple Inn, Holborn, London, and 125 High Road, Wembley, Middlesex in 1939.  He died in Yateley, Hampshire on 2 February 1964
