Kennard, John Harold 1883 - 1926

John Harold Kennard [commonly known as Harold Kennard] was born in Lambeth, Surrey [now London], England in 1883 and was the son of John Moir Kennard (1856-1950) to whom he was articled in 1900-01.  He worked as an assistant to Henry Poston (1849?-1908), and to Walter Andrew (?-1911) in Parkstone, Dorset. Kennard qualified as an architect in 1910 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1921. He commenced practice as an architect in 1904.  In c.1911 he was in partnership with (?) Cox as Kennard & Cox.

A drawing and plan of proposed houses in Buckinghamshire, England, and 'Seaview', and a house in Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales, designed by Kennard, are featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1907 (pp.28, 29), two drawings and a ground-floor plan of a house on Bois Common, Buckinghamshire designed by Kennard are featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1908 (illustration B56), and two photographs of 'Montalba', Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire, and a drawing of cottages at Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, designed by him are featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1911 (pp.48, 49).

Kennard exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1906-09. His address during these years was given as 13 Railway Approach, London Bridge, London, and 23 Devereux Court, Strand, London. Kennard died in Amersham on the Hill, Buckinghamshire on 18 February 1926.
