King, Charles Robert Baker 1837 - 1916

Charles Robert Baker King [also known as Charles Robert Baker-King] was born in St Pancras, Middlesex [now London], England on 9 December 1837 and was articled to Charles Henry Cooke (1829?-1888) in London. From 1859 he was employed in the office of Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1888) as an assistant and later chief assistant until 1878.

King's practice specialised in church architecture. His chief work included the restoration of St Mary’s in Totnes, Devon for Scott in from 1897 to 1874 and he was involved in the restoration of St Davids Cathedral in St Davids, Wales from 1865

Whilst working for Scott he set up his own independent practice in London in 1866.  King was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1862. His address was given as 24 University Street, London in 1861; 3 Houghton Street, London in 1868; and 35 Oakley Square, London, and 2 Dean's Yard, Westminster, London in 1914-16.  He died in St Pancras, Middlesex [now London] on 27 November 1916.
