Herbert Edmund Knight was born in Hampton Middlesex, England on 16 January 1866 and was articled to Herbert Ford (1832?-1903) and Robert Lempriere Hesketh (1850-1937) of Ford & Hesketh in London. He also attended the South Kensington Schools in London. He commenced independent practice as an architect in London in 1889.
He was elected a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) in 1892 and was admitted a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1925. He died in Bournemouth, England on 78 November 1948
