Bernard Arthur Le Mare was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England on 31 October 1908. Nothing is known about his training as an architect. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1936. In 1936 he won 3rd Prize in a competition to design a timber house organised by the Timber Development Association. A drawing of the house is illustrated in Design for To-day February 1936 p.85.
A timber-framed building designed by Le Mare and Proskauer [assumed to be the German-born architect Henry G. Proskauer (1915-2006)] and built in Woodford, Essex in 1936 is discussed in The Modern House in England (London: The Architectural Press, 1937 pp. 79-80)
In the 1939 England and Wales Register Le Mare's occupation was given as Teacher in Architecture. His address was given as 8 The Park, Hull, Yorkshire in 1936; and Crown Terrace, Scarborough, Yorkshire in 1939. He died in Welwyn, Hertfordshire on 19 December 1989
