Edwin Ambrose Lloyd was born in Birkenhead. Cheshire, England in 1866 and was articled to R. Wyliew in Liverpool from 1885 to 1889. He also attended Liverpool School of Science and Technology. He worked as an assistant to John Clarke (1852-1936) and to W. H. F. Sames (1863?-1904) and G. G. Sames in Blackburn, Lancashire from 1892 to 1897; to Angelo W. R. Simpson (1852-1935) and F. W. Duckworth of Simpson & Duckworth from 1897 to 1900; and to A. Gladwell from 1900 to 1903. Lloyd commenced independent practice as an architect in Blackburn in 1903. He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911. He died in Blackburn, Lancashire on 12 January 1933.
