Lockton, Herbert William 1878 - 1924

Herbert William Lockton was born in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England on 6 December 1878. He was articled to George Sheppard of Sheppard & Harrison in Newark from 1895 to 1900 and remained as an assistant until 1905. He also attended Newark School of Art. He commenced independent practice in Newark in 1905 [or 1907 - sources differ] and was in partnership with Sheppard as Sheppard & Lockton until 1914. He was a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) and was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1911.

Lockton's address was given as Bar Gate, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and Ivyleigh, The Park, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire in 1911 and 1915; and 24 Castle Gate, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire in 1919 and 1923. He died in 9 December 1924.  Apparently he committed suicide. He shot himself whilst staying at the Imperial Hotel [location not known].
