Edgar Wallis Long was born in Maidstone, Kent, England in 1870. Nothing is known about his training as an architect. From 1895 to 1899 he was the junior partner in the architectural firm Loader & Long. In 1899 he set up his own practice at 54 Old Stein, Brighton, Sussex. From 1911 to 1915 he ran the practice from his home, 40 Marlborough Place Brighton.
By 1911 he had established a practice in Brighton, Sussex. Drawings and plans of a house designed by him are illustrated in Designs for One Hundred Ideal £1,000 Houses. Being copies of the hundred best designs entered in the 1912 Daily Mail Architects' Competition (1912 p.71).
Nothing is known about his activities after 1915. He died in Brighton on 3 February 1962
