Lovell, Percy Wells 1877 - 1950

Percy Wells Lovell was born in Lucknow, India on 23 June 1877 and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge from where he graduated with a BA in 1898.  He was articled to Aston Webb (1849-1930) in London from 1899 to 1901 and remained with him as his assistant until 1904.  He also attended classes at the Architectural Association in London.  

Wells qualified as an architect in 1907. He had already commenced practice in Westminster, London two years before.  In c.1910 with Thomas Oliphant Foster (1881-1942) and Thomas Arthur Lodge (1888-1967) he formed the London-based architectural partnership Foster, Lovell & Lodge.  The partnership was dissolved in c.1913.

During World War One, Lovell was part of team recruited to formulate a plan for the post-war development of London.  They produced a report entitled London of the Future, published in 1919 which thought to have been largely edited by Lovell, although ostensibly it was edited by Aston Webb.

Lovell was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in in 1907. He was also a Fellow of the Society of Architects.  He was a member of the Leicester Diocese Advisory Council.  

His address was given as Parliament Chambers, Great Smith Street, London and 18 Hampstead Lane, Highgate, London in 1907 and 1923; 23 Old Queen Street, Westminster, London in 1910 and 1914; and The London Society, 27 Abingdon Street, london in 1926 and 1939. He died in Leicester on 5 June 1950.
