Richard Macleod Maitland [also known as Dick Maitland] was born in London, England* on 7 September 1917 and trained at the Architectural Association School in London from where he received a DipAA. He was also elected an Associate if the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA). In 1949, with fellow Architectural Association graduates James Cubitt (1914-1983), Stefan Buzás (1915-2008) and Thomas William Fello Atkinson (1919-1982) he formed James Cubitt & Partners. He subsequently remained with the firm until he retired from the practice in 1959. During the 1950s Maitlland worked briefly in a branch of Cubitt at the Gold Coast (Ghana).
His address was given as Frimley Place, Old Disley Road, Frimley, Surrey in 1939. He died in London on 29 March 1976.
