Ellis Marsland was born in Walworth, Surrey, England in 1854 and was articled to Charles Augustus Gould (1827?-1880). He also attended the Royal Academy Schools in London. He commenced practice as an architect in London in 1879. He was also a District Surveyor. He was elected a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) in 1896 and was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925.
His address was given as 73 Sydenham Hill, London in 1896; The Court House, Painswick, Gloucestershire in 1911 and 1914; and 32 Camberwell Grove, London in 1914 and 1926. He died in 1935. His death was registered in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
