Martin, Hugh 1922 - 1981

Hugh Harold Martin [commonly known as Hugh Martin] was born on 12 August 1922. He worked as an architect and furniture designer in Britain from the 1940s onwards. A sideboard designed by Martin & Fisher, Gillis & Co. Ltd. of Dundee, Scotland, is illustrated in ‘Art and Industry’ vol.46, no.276, June 1949 (p.225).  Martin was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Archiects (ARIBA) in 1948. In 1958 he formed a partnership with Ian Burke (Burke Martin Partnership, also known as Ian Burke, Hugh Martin & Partners). The partnership was dissolved in 1969.  Martin then took Robert Leiper, Ronald S Sutherland and George M Keith into partnership to form Hugh Martin & Partners. Martin died in Longforgan, Scotland on 30 November 1981.
