William Arthur Harvey Masters

William Arthur Harvey Masters [also known as W.A.H. Masters] was born the son of the Rev. Canon W. Caldwell Masters in Long Marston, Hertfordshire, England, on 30 September 1876. Between 1893 and 1897 he was articled to Carpenter & Ingelow in London. He then worked as assistant to Richard John Lovell (c.1858-1931) in 1897-98 and William Frank Unsworth (1851-1912) in 1898-99. He worked in Brighton Borough Survey's Office in 1900-01. Masters established a independent practice in Swindon, Wiltshire in 1902.

Photographs and floor plans of cottages at Cricklade and Castle Eaton, Wiltshire, designed by Masters are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1907 (p.34).

Masters was Diocesan Surveyor for the Archdeaconry of Swindon in the Diocese of Bristol. He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911.  He lived for many years at 42 Cricklade Street, Swindon and died in Stanton Fitzwarren, near Swindon in 1928.

Architectural projects by Masters included St. Philip's Church in Upper Stratton (1904); Charlton Church (nave and aisles) in Wantage (1906); St. Augustine's Parish Church in Swindon (1907); cottages at Cricklade and Castle Eaton (c.1907); St. Luke's Church in Swindon (1910); St. Barnabas Church (tower) in Swindon (1912); All Saints Mission Church in Swindon (1908); Lushill Manor Farm in Castle Eaton (1913); St. Augustine's Vicarage in Swindon (1914); war memorials in Highworth, Broad Blunsdon, Wroughton, Lyddington, and Wooton Bassett (1919-22); a housing scheme for Cricklade and Wootton Bassett Rural District Council (1919-22); 'Noys End' in Brockham Green, Surrey; Stornoway in Swindon (1923); South Lodge in Stanton Fitzwarren; farm buildings in Hannington (1924); and cottages in Shrivenham, Berkshire.
