David Gordon McIntosh was born in Bromyard, Herefordshire, England on 28 April 1873. He was articled to Edward George Jones of Yeates & Jones in Worcester from 1890 to 1894 and remained with him as his assistant until 1895. He also attended Worcester School of Art. He set up his own architectural practice in 1894, however, he also worked as an assistant in various offices for a number of years including to Frederick T. Beck in Wolverhampton from 1895 to 1898; to J. A. Seward in Breston; the the Admiralty Works Department from 1903 to 1906; and to John Woolfall (1838-1919) and Thomas Edgar Eccles (1865-1946) of Woolfall & Eccles from 1906 to 1919. From 1919 to 1946 he was in partnership with Thomas Edgar Eccles. McIntosh designed the Pavilion for Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1898
McIntosh was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925. His address was given as 60, Castle Street, Liverpool in 1911 and 1939. He died on 19 March 1956. At the time of his death he was living ar Wayfareers, South Street, Cuckfield, Sussex
