George Meek was born in Hull, England in 1849 and was articled to Richard George Smith in Hull. He also attended Hull Commercial School and Hull School of Art. From c.1872 to 1902 he was employed by Manchester City Surveyor's Department. He held various positions in the Department, eventually becoming chief architectural assistant. In 1902 he established his own independent practice in Manchester. Meek was a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA). He died in Highgate, London on 9 October 1924
As Architectural Assistant under the City Surveyor of Manchester, and afterwards as chief of the architectural department, has designed and carried out a great number of architectural works, baths, police, and fire stations, lodges, bowl houses, recreation grounds, free libraries; alterations to the Art Gallery; extension of Monsall Hospital; main drainage, outfall works and offices, settling tanks, &c. &c. Since entering upon private practice, has designed and carried out extension of St. Paul's Church, Kensal. Manchester; large warehouse, engineering works, chemical works; villas; forty workmen's dwellings for the Eccles Corporation, Town Hall, shops, and market, Gainsborough; school extension
