Milburn, William Godfrey 1875 - 1964

William Godfrey Milburn was born in Brixton, Surrey [now London] in 1875 and was articled to Arthur John Gale (1857-?) in London from 1895 to 1898.  He also studied at the Architectural Association Schools in London and King's College, London

Having completed his articles, Milburn worked as an assistant to George Waymouth (1845-1923) in 1899 and to Harry Lawrence Dighton Pearson (1867-1925) in 1900. From 1901 to 1903 he attended the University of Oxford.   He qualified as an architect and in c.1907 formed a partnership with Pearson, Pearson & Milburn.  The practice had an office at 27 Chancery Lane, London. They were awarded 2nd place in a competition to design Glamorgan County Council Hall in Cardiff, Wales. Their designs are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 2, no. 21, April 1909 (pp. 277-280).  Pearson & Milburn were in partnership until at least 1910.

Milburn was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1907.  His address was given as Hollywood House, Wimbledon Common, London and 27 Chancery Lane in 1907; and 70 Newman Street, London in 1913.

Note: Nothing is known about Milburn's activities between 1913 and 1964.  His name does not appear in the Kalendar of The Royal Institute of British Architects after the 1913-14 edition. It is possible that he either left the architectural profession or lived abroad
