John Duncan Miller [also known as J. Duncan Miller and as John D. Miller] was born in Bucklow, Bowdon, Cheshire, England on 6 April 1902. He worked as an architect, interior designer and furniture designer in Britain from the 1920s onwards and had a design studio - Duncan Miller Ltd [also known as J. Duncan Miller (Decorations) Ltd.] in London.
Design projects by Miller included the façade of Jaeger House in Regent Street, London (c.1935), the interior of 11 Hyde Park Gardens, London (1937), Jaeger House in Glasgow (1939) and the Majorca Restaurant in Brewer Street, London (1937). A rug designed by Miller is illustrated in 'Design and Decoration in the Home' by Noel Carrington (London: Country Life, 1938) p.68. He was the author of ’Interior Decorating’ (1937, and later editions). In the late 1930s Miller was appointed head of the Department of Interior Design at the Reimann School and Studios of Industrial and Commercial Art in London.
Miller died on 20 May 1977. His address at the time of his death was Le Moulin du Petit Large Saumane-de-Vaucluse 784800 L'Isle sur Sorgue, France. His wife, Leila Madeleine Miller (1905-1973) was also a designer.
