New, Claude Edward 1877 - 1969

Claude Edward New was born in Paddington, London, England in 1877.  Nothing is known about his training. By the early 1900s he was working as an architect and art metalworker. Photographs of his work, including a door-plate and knocker, fire dogs, electric light bracket, electric wall bracket, fire irons, and a electric light pendant, are illustrated in 'The `Studio' January 1904 (pp.241, 242, 243, 244); and the billiard room and a porch designed by him for a house in Richmond, Surrey are illustrated in 'The Studio' July 1904 (pp.136, 137).  

During World War One he served as a major in the East Surrey Regiment. His address was given as 116 Victoria Street, London in 1922. He died in St. Albans, Hertfordshire on 6 January 1969
