Charles Nicholas was born on 2 September 1874. He was articled to William Henry White (1862-1949) from 1892 to 1895 and remained as his assistant. He also attended South Kensington School of Art in London. He qualified as an architect in 1904 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1905.
Nicholas commenced practice as an architect in partnership with John Edward Dixon-Spain (1878-1955) as Nicholas & Dixon-Spain in London in 1905. The pair remained in partnership for the rest of their career.
Nicholas was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1920. He died in Worthing, Sussex in 23 December 1971
