Pedley, James Lyndon 1811 - 1876

James Lyndon Pedley [also known as James L. Pedley, and as J. L. Pedley] was born Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England in 1811. He was practising as an architect in Warwickshire by the early 1850s

Pedley appears to have lived and practised as an architect in various places between the 1850s. His address was given as Bradford Street, Aston, Warwickshire in 1851. In 1855 he was initiated into the Salopian Lodge of the United Grand Lodge of England Freemasons in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. In the mid-1850s he was in partnership with Alfred George Lock in Southampton, Hampshire. The partnership was dissolved in December 1857.  Pedley's address was given as 38 Canon Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1858. By the time of the 1861 England & Wales Census he had moved to London where he was in practice at 36, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London in 1861. In the 1871 Census his address was given as 21 St. George's Square, London. He later moved to 83 Gloucester Road, Regent's Park, Middlesex [now London]. He died at his home, 10 St. Mark's Crescent, Middlesex, London on 7  June 1876.

Pedley designed two Church of England parish churches in Birmingham: St, Paul's Church in Balsall Heath in 1852-53, and St Matthias' Church on Farm Street in 1855-56. Designs for a labourer's cottage by Pedley are discussed and illustrated in Notes on Cottage-building by the Rev. T. James (Northampton, Northamptonshire: Northampton Architectural Society, 1861)
