John Tavenor Perry [also known as John Tavenor-Perry] was born in Chelsea, Middlesex [now London], England in 1842 and was articled to Thomas Hayter Lewis (1817?-1898) in 1859 He also attended the Royal Academy Schools in London and was awarded the first Pugin Studentship in 1865. He commenced practice as an architect in London in 1864 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year. From c.1871 to 1873 he was in partnership with John Treadway Hanson and from c.1875 was in partnership with Frederick Henry Reed (1849-1922) as Perry & Reed
Tavenor-Perry was elected a Fellow Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1896. He died in Chiswick, Middlesex [now London] on 23 September 1915
