Pollak, Ernst 1907 - 1907

Ernst Pollak worked as an architect, exhibition, furniture and interior designer in the UK between the 1940s and 1970s.  He was possibly born on 8 March 1907, possibly in Czechoslovakia and may have moved to the UK in the 1930s.

Architecture and interior design projects on which he worked included a switchback road crossing (with T.W. Kennedy, 1943) and reception office in Greenwich, London, and offices at Weymouth Street, London (1949). He was also joint winner in a competition for the redesign of public houses in 1949.

A report on furniture frames designed by Pollak was published in 'Architects' Journal' 27 November 1947 (p.479), a photograph of a chair in 'Vandura' bonded wood veneer and aluminium, designed and made by him is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1949 (p.58); and a photograph of a cocktail cabinet with framed front for displaying art, designed for Heal's of London is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1957-58 (p.41).

Pollak qualified as an architect with an Ing. Arch. and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers (FSIAD).  He lived in north west London in the 1950s and 1960s. The 1972 edition of the Yearbook of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers gives his address as c/o David Kay & Associates, 13 Waterloo Road, Kingston 10, Jamaica. He died in Hendon, north west London in 1988
