Alfred Reginald Potter [also known as Arthur Reginald Potter] was born Croydon, Surrey, England on 15 November 1892. In the 1911 England and Wales Census he gave as his occupation Surveyors clerk. By 1926 he was working as an architect in partnership with Ernest Gladstone Allen (1881-1964) as Allen & Potter. They had an office at 11 Arundel Street, Strand, London. Allen and Potter remained in partnership at this address until at least 1939.
Potter was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1931
His address was given as 4 Courtney Road, Croydon, Surrey in 1911 and 1915; 18 Elm Road, Coulsdon, Surrey in 1920; 35 Pampisford Road, Croydon in 1939; and 35 Eley Crescent, Rottingdean, Sussex in 1968. He died on 28 December 1968 and was buried in Sutton, Surrey on 3 January 1969
