Denis Poulton was born Reading, Berkshire, England on 16 July 1901 and studied at Liverpool University School of Architecture. From 1931 to c.1938 he was in partnership with William Stanley Grice (1889-1952) as Grice & Poulton [W. S. Grice & Denis Poulton]. He also worked at one time with Sir Herbert Baker.
Poulton was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1929. His address was given as 2 Wellington Square, Oxford in 1930; 21 Porchester Square, London in 1931 and 1935; 21 Upper Berkeley Street, Portman Square, London in 1932 and 1933; 50 Baker Street, London in 1935 and 1938; 25 Devonshire Close, London in 1939; and Chestnut Cottage, Maidensgrove, Oxfordshire 1981. He died in Henley, Oxfordshire, England in 1981
