Ramsey, Stanley Churchill 1882 - 1968

Stanley Churchill Ramsey was born in Wandsworth, London, England on 2 December 1882. From 1899 to 1902 he trained as an architect at King's College, London where he was a Gold Medallist. He then worked as an assistant to Charles Stanley Peach (1858-1934). He qualified as an architect in 1906 and later that year was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA). From 1907 to 1910 he attended the Royal Academy Schools in London.

In 1911 the architect Stanley Davenport Adshead (1868-1946) was invited to design the Duchy of Cornwall Estate in Kennington, London, and he took Stanley Churchill Ramsey into partnership. They remained partners as Adshead & Ramsey until at least 1939.  Their office was at 46 Great Russell Street, London. The firm was probably dissolved following the outbreak of World War One. In the late 1940s Ramsey formed a partnership with Keith Murray (1892-1981) and Charles Stanley White (1893-1966), which operated as Ramsey, Murray & White. The firm had  an office at 32 Wigmore Street, London. In 1955 Basil Ward (1902-1976) became a partner in the practice which was renamed Ramsey, Murray, White & Ward.

Ramsey was the author of books on architectural history. He also wrote for the Town Planning Review, Architectural Review.

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1920.

He died in Ballater, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on 25 December 1968.
