William Harrington Scrymgour was born in Islington, London, England on 16 July 1852 and was articled to Henry Stone and Alfred Sansom from 1867 to 1869. He then went to the office of George Alchin Dunnage as an improver in 1869-70, and worked as an assistant with William Cubbitt & Compant in 1870, and to Arthur Hawksley in 1871.
Scrymgour commenced independent practice in London in 1871. He qualified as a District Surveyor in 1876 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1881. He died at 11 Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, Middlesex [now London] on 2 April 1923.
