In 1919,  Herbert Morgan Smail who was the firm's chief draughtsman, joined the firm as a partner, however, the title of the practice remained unchanged.   Shepheard was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1907. He died in Dundee on 21 December 1937.
