Shoppee, Charles Herbert 1852 - 1917

Charles Herbert Shoppee was born in  St. Pancras. London. England on 4 September 1852 and was articled to his father, Charles John Shoppee (1822-1897) in London from 1868.  He also attended King's College, London.  After working in the office of Arthur William Blomfield (1829-1899), he returned to his father's practice.   He qualified as an architect in 1871 and commenced practice in London in 1873. From 1873 he was in partnership with his father, eventually succeeding to his practice.  In  1888 he was appointed Architect and Surveyor to the Honourable Court of Lieutenancy of London. He was the inventor of Shoppee's patent dovetailed brick.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1874 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1889.  His address was given as 61 Doughty Street, London in 1874; 22 John Street, Bedford Row, London in 1889 and 1915; and 41 Mecklenburgh Square, London in 1914, where he died on 3 December 1917.
