Skipworth, Arthur Henry 1861 - 1907

Arthur Henry Skipworth [also known as A. H. Skipworth and as Henry Skipworth] was born in Bilsdale, Yorkshire, England on 6 September 1861 and was the son of a clergyman, Rev. Arthur Bolland Skipworth (1830-1898). He was articled to George Frederick Bodley (1827-1907) of Bodley & Garner in London and remained as his assistant.

By 1889 Skipworth had established his own practice at 5 Staple Inn, London. He was associated with Edward Prioleau Warren (1856-1937) and shared the same office, although they appear not to have been in partnership.

Architectural drawings by Skipworth were exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy in London between 1889 and 1903. He also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh in 1907.

In addition to his work as an architect, Skipworth was a decorative designer, specialising in church fittings. This included the design of reredos for St Leonard's, church in Newark, Nottinghamshire (1880) in All Saints' church in Earsham, Norfolk (1890), St Radegund's church in Grayingham, Lincolnshire (1892), and St Mary's church in Edith Weston, Rutland (1896); and a chancel screen for All Saints' church in Fulham, London (1898).

Examples of his work as a designer were shown in the 3rd (1890), 5th (1896), 6th (1899), and 7th (1903) exhibitions of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society in London.

Skipworth was elected a member of the Art Workers Guild in 1894.

His address was given as 5 Staple Inn, London in 1889 and 1906. He died on 12 April 1907. His death was registered in Hampstead, Middlesex [now London]
