Smith, George Willie 1883 - 1958

George Willie Smith [also known as George W. Smith] was born on 16 September 1883. It is not known where or with whom he trained as an architect.  He commenced independent practice in 1912 and was in partnership with Charles Reginald Newborn (1878-1930) as Newborn & Smith in London from 1922 to 1930.  He then worked alone until 1950 when he formed a partnership with Edward Rex. Saxon Snell (1909-1990). The partnership was dissolved in 1950 following the death of Smith.

Smith was a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) and was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925. He was also a Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers (MIStructE). He was Consulting Architect to Roehampton Club until 1951 and Deputy Technical Advisor to the War Damage Committee.

His address was given as 6 New Square, Lincoln Inn. London in 1923 and 1927; and 12 Grange Road, Barnes, Surrey in 1939 He died in Surrey on 13 April 1958
