Steinthal, Edwin Alfred 1859 - 1928

Edwin Alfred Steinthal [commonly known as Alfred Steinthal] was born in Fallowfield, Manchester. Lancashire, England on 7 May 1859. He studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart from 1879 to 1882. He also attended University College, London and at the Royal Academy Schools in London.  In 1883 he was articled to William Young (1843-1900) in London in 1883 and remained with him as his assistant.

Steinthal commenced independent practice as an architect in Manchester 1886 and was briefly in partnership with Frank Walter Mee (1854-1933) as Mee & Steinthal in 1886-87. In 1888 he formed a partnership with Edward Salomons (1828-1906) as Salomons & Steinthal. The partnership was dissolved in 1906 following the death of Salomons. Thereafter, Steinthal, practised alone.

Steinthal was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1906. His address was given as Green Bank. Langham Road, Lion Inn, Cheshire in 1914; and Prudential Chambers, 78, King Street, Manchester in 1914 and 1928. He died in  Bramhall, Cheshire on 22 January 1928
