Stewart, Donald Alexander 1876 - 1940

Donald Alexander Stewart was born in Dunning, Perthshire, Scotland on 6 July 1876. He was articled to David Smart (1824-1914) of D. & J. Smart in Perth from 1892 to 1895 and remained with him as his assistant until 1907.  In 1907 he was taken into partnership by Smart as Smart & Stewart. In 1924 the firm became Smart, Stewart & Mitchell when Robert Matthew Mitchell (1874-1949) joined the practice.  

Stewart was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1921. He was also President of the Dundee Institute of Architects.

His address was given as 42, Tay Street, Perth, Perthshire from c.1895 to c.1911; 6, Rosemount Place, Perth, Perthshire in 1911 and 1914; Murrayfield, St Magdalene's Road, Craigie, Perth, Perthshire; and 40 Tay Street, Perth, Perthshire in c.1929 and 1940. He died on 16 January 1940.
