Stone, Henry Spencer Walcott 1879 - 1951

Henry Spencer Walcott Stone [also known as Henry Walcott Stone] was born in Taunton, Somerset, England in 1879. He was articled to Frederick William Roberts (1859-1932) in Taunton from 1896 to 1900 and remained as his assistant for a period. He also worked as an assistant to Augustus Edward Hughes (1874-1975) in 1900; to Charles Edward Bateman (1863-1947) in Birmingham from 1903; to Henry Martin & Son; and to J. M. Randall, agent to the Earl of Dunraven.

Stone established his own architectural practice in Taunton in 1910. He was in partnership with J. W. Lloyd from 1911, with Eric Carwardine Francis (1887?-1976) as Stone and Francis from 1925 to 1935, and with C. G. Toy and M. Hewitt as H. S. W. Stone & Partners from 1936.

Stone was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1904, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1920. He was also a member of the Bristol and Somerset Society of Architects and its President in 1950-51, and Chairman of the Royal West of England Academy School of Architecture Council.  

His address was given as Edmund Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire and 9 The Avenue, Taunton, Somerset in 1904 and1913; Lloyd's Bank Chambers, North Street, Taunton in 1914 and 1939; and 7 Fore Street, Taunton in 1939.

He died in Taunton, Somerset on 24 October 1951.
