Stonham, Peter Dulvey 1877 - 1942

Peter Dulvey Stonham [also known as Percy Dulvey Stonham] was born in East Hill, Ashford, Kent, England on 18 May 1877, and from c.1899 worked as an assistant to Frederick George Cooke (1858-1938) in Eastbourne, Sussex. He subsequently commenced independent practice in Eastbourne in 1905. By the mid-1930s he was in partnership with his son, also Peter Dulvey Stonham (1903-1972) as Peter D. Stonham & Son. He also worked at times with the architect Arthur Richard George Fenning (1855-1937)

Stonham was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925.  He was also a Fellow of the Society of Architects (FSA).  

Stonham and his practice designed numerous private houses; churches, including St. Elisabeth in Eastbourne, with Sydney Joseph Tatchell (1877-1965) and Geoffrey Cecil Wilson (1887-1958), 1935-38; various commercial buildings; and a number of cinemas.

Stonham senior's address was given as Arcade Chambers, 58 Grove Road, Eastbourne, Sussex in 1914 and 1923; and Hadley House, Upperton Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex in 1926 and 1939. He died in Eastbourne, Sussex on 12 August 1942.  Following his death his son continued his practice until at least the early 1950s
