Frederick William Tarring was born in St. Marylebone, London, England in 1847 and was articled to his father, John Tarring (1806-1875), in London from 1863. He also attended the Architectural Association Schools in London. He commenced independent practice in c.1868 and was in partnership with his father until 1875. He was later in partnership with Robert Stark Wilkinson (1844-1926). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1874 and was Surveyor to the Worshipful Company of Cooks
His address was given as 1 Woodland Road, New Southgate, London in 1874 and 1890; 69 Basinghall Street, London in 1867 and 1878; 26 Coolhurst Road, Crouch End, Hornsey, Middlesex [now London] in 1914 and 1926. He died in Edmonton, Middlesex on 16 July 1925
