Harry Teather was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England on 18 January 1867. He was articled to Charles John Innocent (1838?-1901) in 1884 and remained as his assistant until 1890. He also attended schools of art and science in Sheffield. He worked as an assistant to William Henry Dashwood Caple (1866-1939) in Cardiff, Wales from 1890 to 1895. In 1895 he commenced independent practice in Cardiff and was in partnership with Cecil Locke Wilson (1869-1924) in Cardiff from 1900 to 1924. In the late 1930s he was in partnership in Cardiff with Charles Frederick Jones as Harry Teather & C. F. Jones.
Teather was Principal Suyrveyor to the South Wales Munitions Board from 1917 to 1919 and was Surveyor to the Diocese of Llandaff from 1924 to 1953. He was also Architect to the Glamorgan Territorial Army and a member of the Architects' Advisory Committee to Cardiff Rural District Council.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1905. He was also a member of the South Wales Institute of Architects and its President in 1908-09.
His address was given as Chantry Road, Norton, Derbyshire in 1881; 1 Lexden Gardens Belle Vue Shrewsbury, Shropshire in 1901; Andrew's Buildings, Queen Street, Cardiff in 1905 and 1936; "Craighurst", 66 Connaught Road, Cardiff in 1905 and 1914; Partridge Road, Cardiff in 1907; Endcliffe Tydraw Road, Roath Park Cardiff in 1917; and 67 Queen Street, Cardiff in 1939. He died in Glamorgan on 14 October 1956.
