Thompson, Charles Clayton 1873 - 1932

Charles Clayton Thompson was born in Horsley, Derbyshire, England on 26 March 1873 and was articled to Henry Allen Prothero (1848-1906) and George Henry Phillpott (1851?-1926) of Middleton, Prothero & Phillpott in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1893.   He went to Edward Guy Dawber (1861-1938) in London as an improver and worked as an assistant to William Howard Seth Smith (1858-1928), Robert Weir Schultz (1860-1951); William Cecil  Marshall (1849-1921) of Marshall & Vickers. and John Belcher (1841-1913).  He also attended King's College, London and the Architectural Association Schools in London.

Thompson commenced independent practice in Derby, Derbyshire in 1903 and was in partnership with Percy Heylyn Currey (1865-1942) in Derby as Currey & Thompson from that year.  He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) 1915.

Thompson's address was given as 3, Market Place, Derby in 1911 and 1915; and 32, St. John's Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire in 1911 and 1932. He died in Marylebone, London on 11 April 1932.
