Ernest Stuart Thompson was born in Wavertree, Lancashire, England in 1868. Nothing is known about his training as an architect. By 1901 he was in practice with an office at 33 Leicester Street, Southport, Lancashire. By 1911 he had moved to Ormskirk, Lancashire. He died on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire in 1934.
