Tiltman, Stavers Hessell 1888 - 1968

Stavers Hessell Tiltman was born in Harborne, Staffordshire, England on 2 August 1888 and was articled to his uncle, Alfred Hessell Tiltman (1854-1910) in London from 1904 to 1907 and remained with him as his assistant until 1909 during this time he also attended evening classes at Regent's Street Polytechnic in London. After leaving his uncle's practice he was employed as Head Draughtsman to J. Barns & Sons in Brighton Sussex from 1909 to 1912.

Stavers Hessell Tiltman commenced independent practice as an architect in Haywards Heath, Sussex in 1912.  After serving in the Army from 1919 to 1919 he was appointed Architect and Engineer to the Rock Brewery in Brighton for whom he designed numerous public houses. He was also Architect to The Steynings Brewery Ltd. and Portsmouth and Brighton United Breweries  From 1927 he practised in Brighton

He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1925 and a Fellow of the Royal institute of British architects (FRIBA) in 1937.

His address was given as 40 Borough Street, Brighton in 1923; 31 Clifton Hill, Brighton, Sussex in 1926; 42 Middl Street, Brighton, Sussex in 1938; 38 East Street, Brighton, Sussex in 1939; and 40 Jove Park Road, Hove, Sussex in 1968.  He died on 28 August 1968.
