Trevithick, Cecil 1880 - 1967

Cecil Trevithick was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 28 April 1880 and was articled to J. S. Turner in Auckland from 1899 to 1903  He then worked as an assistant to George Wilfred Allsop in Auckland from 1903 to 1906.

In 1906  he moved to London and was employed as an assistant to Horace Gilbert (1860-1932) in 1906-07.  Trevithick qualified as an architect in 1907 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1908.  He subsequently returned to New Zealand and in 1914, with British-born architect Benjamin Charles Chilwell (1879-1950), he established an architectural practice, Chilwell & Trevithick, in Auckland..

A photograph of a bungalow in Epsom, New Zealand, designed by Chilwell & Trevithick is featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1916 (p.129). The firm was active until at least the 1940s.   Trevithick died in Auckland in 1967
