Sydney Vacher was born Kensington, Middlesex [now London], England on 2 April 1854 and trained as an architect at the Architectural Association Schools and the Royal Academy Schools in London. He subsequently practised as an architect in London and from c.1889 was in a short-lived partnership with Evelyn Arthur Gresley Hellicar (1862-1929) at 35 Wellington Street, Strand, London. Together they won the competition to design the Valley Primary School, Shortlands, Kent in 1889. They also exhibited a design for a post office in Hertford at the Royal Academy in London in 1890.
Other designs by Vacher exhibited at the Royal Academy included the West front of Cathedral, Famagusta, Cyprus (1882); South front of Cathedra, Famagusta, Cyprus (1882); An Infirmary for Hastings, Sussex (1883); A suburban house in Elstree, Hertfordshire (1884); and a tower and spire for All Saints, Peterborough (1887).
In addition to his work as an architect Vacher was also an etcher and designed wallpaper. He was the author of Fifteenth Century Italian Ornament (1886).
Vacher's address was given as 35 Wellington Street, The Strand, London in 1905 and 1907; and Oxted, Surrey in 1921. He also lived in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. He died on 11 January 1935
