Arthur Thomas Walmisley was born Pimlico, Middlesex [now London] on 27 April 1848 and was articled to Roland Mason Ordish (1824-1886) in London. He also attended King's College, London. He commenced independent practice as an architect in London in 1877 and was appointed engineer to the Dover Harbour Board in 1888. He was, until 1919, senior partner in the firm A. T. Walmisley & White.
Walmisley was elected an Hon. Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1896 and a Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (M.Inst.CE.). He lectured on waterways, harbours and docks at University College, London. His address was given as 9, Victoria Street, Westminster, London and Atherstone, Castle Avenue, Dover, Kent in 1914; and 23 Clifton Crescent, Folkestone, Kent in 1923. He died on 18 January 1923. His obituary appeared in The Journal of the Iron and Steel Institute Vol. 108, 1923 p. 377
