Walters, Frederick Arthur 1849 - 1931

Frederick Arthur Walters was born in Brompton, London, England on 5 February 1849 and was articled to his father, Frederick Page Walters from c.1866 to c.1869. He then worked as an assistant in the office of George Goldie (1828-1887) and Charles Edwin Child (1843-1911) of Goldie & Child from 1869 to 1878. In 1878 he commenced practice as an architect in London He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1882 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1924. From 1924 he was in partnership with his son, Edward John Walters (1880-1947) as F. A. Walters & Son. Stanley Chave Kerr Bate (1906-1989) later joined the practice.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1890 to 1909. He also participated in the 5th exhibition of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society at the New Gallery in London in 1896.

His address was given as 4, Great Queen Street, Westminster, London in 1881 and 1892; 37, Oid Queen Street, Westminster, London in 1894 and 1914. He died in Temple Ewell, Kent on 3 December 1931. His practice was continued by his son and Kerr Bate as Walters & Kerr Bate.

F. A. Walters worked primarily as a church architect. He designed more than 50 churches and other buildings for the Roman Catholic Church.
