Winbourne, Goodman George 1892 - 1947

Goodman George Winbourne [also known as G. G. Winbourne; and as Goodman George Winebaum] was born in Russia in 1892. He emigrated with his family to England as a child and used the name Goodman George Winebaum until c.1920.

In c.1909 he was articled to an architect and surveyor in London. During his training as an architect he was awarded a number of prizes and studentships including 1st Class Honours Full Technological Diploma (Quantities) from the City and Guilds in 1910; Honours in Construction from the Board of Education in 1910; Kings Prize (Architecture) in 1910; and the "Special" Prizeman award from the Surveyors' Institution, 1913. In 1920 he was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) and subsequently established a practice in London.

Winbourne's address was given as 108a Cannon Street, London in 1922 and 1923; Raymond House, 32, Theobald's Road, London in 1926; 214 Bishopsgate, London in 1930 and 1939; and 5 Copthorne Avenue, King's Avenue, London in 1947. He died in London on 19 June 1947

Winbourne is mainly known for his work in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London during the mid-1930s, including houses on Lytton Close and Linden Lea. Among other properties designed by Winborne elsewhere in London included Cheviot House on Commercial Road for the textile firm Kornberg and Segal; a factory in Wembley for Charles Kinloch & Co. Ltd.; and an apartment building at Kew Bridge Court in 1936 for D. & F. Estates. He also designed several shops, warehouses, offices and factory buildings in and around London.
