Young, Ernest Alexander 1865 - 1956

Ernest Alexander Young was born in South Stoneham, Hampshire, England on 22 May 1865 and was articled to William Thomas Sams (1840-1891) in 1881. He studied building construction and engineering in 1886 and worked as an assistant to Alfred Walter Saxon Snell (1860-1949).  He qualified as an architect in 1890 and commenced independent practice as an architect in Whitehall, London in 1904. He was appointed district surveyor under the London Building Acts in 1910, and was district surveyor for Lewisham East and Woolwich South from 1911 to 1930.  He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1891.

Young was an authority on bell towers and wrote on the subject.  His address was given as 39 Wigmore Street, Marylebone, London and 22 Doughty Street, London in 1891; 12 Donaldson Road, Willesden, Middlesex in 1901 and 1911; 1, Station Buildings. Catford Bridge. London in 1914; 155, Rushey Green, London in 1923 and 1926; "Italian Villa", Elstree Hill, Bromley, Kent in 1939; and 60a Lansdowne Road, Bromley, Kent in 1956.  He did in Farnborough, Kent on 23 July 1956
