Lovell & Son [also known as Y. J. Lovell & Son] was a firm of builders and contractors established in England in 1786 [1]. Partners in the firm at the beginning of the twentieth century were Young James Lovell (1842-1911) and his son Clifford Percival Lovell (1878-1964). The firm worked on projects designed by some of the leading architects in Britain.
The firm had premises at 39 High Street, Bedford, Bedfordshire in 1923; and 6, Bathurst Street, Lancaster Gate, London, and Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and Marlow, Buckinghamshire in 1932.
Y. J. Lowell & Son exhibited the "Lowell House" at the Daily Mail Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia, London in 1932. This large four-bedroom detached house was designed by the architect Albert Leigh Abbott (1890-1952) and built by them.
Y. J. Lowell & Son was active until 1996 when it became Locke & Soares.
