Prestwich & Sons [also known as J. C. Prestwich & Sons, and later as J C Prestwich Partnership] originated as an architectural practice established by James Caldwell Prestwich (1852-1940) in Leigh, Lancashire, England in 1875. His son, Harold Oswald Prestwich (1881-1953) joined the practice in 1907 when it became Prestwich & Son [also known as J. C. Prestwich]. A second son, Ernest Prestwich (1889-1977) became a partner in the practice in 1912, and the firm was then renamed Prestwich & Sons [J. C. Prestwich & Sons].
James Caldwell Prestwich retired from the practice in 1930 leaving his sons to run the business which by the 1980s had become the J C Prestwich Partnership.
