Bertram Ashworth was born in Stretford, near Manchester, England on 28 May 1882 and was the son of the architect Thomas Arnold Ashworth (c.1855-?). He studied at Mount Street School of Art [later Liverpool School of Art] in Liverpool and at Manchester University in the early 1900s. He subsequently practised as an architect in Cheshire. From c.1920 he was a partner in the practice T. Arnold Ashworth & Sons [later T. Arnold & Son]. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1931. A photograph of 'Crossways, a house designed for himself, is illustrated in The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art vol. 21, 1926 (p.12).
The address of his practice was given as 14 Castle Street, Liverpool in 1938 and 1950. His home address was given as Crossways Stage Road, Bebington, Cheshire in 1939. He died on 23 May 1966. His death was registered in Liverpool.
